Yesterday we saw War Horse, which tells the story of Joey, the horse, and Albert, his young owner during WW1. Following the performance members of the cast were selling poppies and collecting donations for the Royal British Legion, we made a contribution.
Then we made our way to the Tower of London, where I was stunned by the number of people walking around to see the poppy installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red despite the fact that it was dark and pouring with rain. It was surreal to see – the poppies and the people…
There are 888,246 poppies in the moat, each one representing one of the fatalities from the First World War.
It seemed a fitting way to remember.
