Recently my sister told me about ‘Gleaning’ – I’d never heard of it, but ‘gleaning’/, put simply, is all about using food that doesn’t meet the required standards for commercial sale and using it to feed hungry people. Seems obvious, really.

Having been ‘living below the line’ this week (which I signed up for a while ago, see post 62) I’ve become really aware of the cost of food and the need to avoid wasting it. I dropped a spoonful of jelly on the floor one day and was gutted; I was too hungry to be wasting a mouthful!
Back to the action today, I’ve pledged to reduce my food waste and filled in my details to get involved next time there’s a gleaning event in my area.
