From tomorrow it is National Dyslexia Awareness Week.
Dyslexia is a learning difference; a combination of strengths and weaknesses which affect the learning process in reading, spelling, writing and sometimes numeracy. People with dyslexia may also have accompanying weaknesses in short term memory, sequencing and the speed at which they process information.
The following information is from the British Dyslexia Association’s website: http://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/
This year’s campaign is focused around the statement: Dyslexia Matters…
Dyslexia Matters… to the one in ten people in the UK living with dyslexia
Dyslexia Matters… because in a company of 50 people, there is likely to be around five members of staff with dyslexia
Dyslexia Matters… because with the right support, a person with dyslexia can reach their full potential
Dyslexia Matters… because knowing your strengths can help you understand and improve on your weaknesses
Dyslexia Matters… because creating a dyslexia friendly environment can be good for everybody
Later this month I’ll be attending some free training organised by my teaching union to help me to support pupils with Dyslexia more effectively.
