A recent Facebook update from the United Nations informed me that:
The International Day of the World’s Indigenous People is commemorated every year on 9 August to promote and protect the rights of indigenous people around the world.
It also encouraged me to find out about the Batwa, an indigenous people struggling to survive in Rwanda and Uganda.
I watched a film made by them and would encourage you to do the same: http://insightshare.org/watch/video/voice-batwa
It made me appreciate everything I take for granted every day…
Sadly the Batwa tribe’s story is not a unique one: Survival are a global movement working to protect the rights of indigenous people. To find out more about them or make a donation to support their work, please visit their website here: http://www.survivalinternational.org/
I made a donation.
