I’m a pretty poor listener, often distracted, short attention span; it’s almost like I have ADD. It’s definitely a skill I need to work on.
Having said that it may seem odd that I’ve just volunteered to work for the Samaritans, but they offer training to volunteers and (like anything) with practise I must be able to improve, right?
Their website describes the training: “It consists of eight three-hour modules, and it is essential that you attend all eight modules. The second part of the training is a further four or five three-hour modules, which are delivered during your first six months as a volunteer.”
So if that doesn’t work, I guess I’ll have to face up to the fact that I cannot do anything I put my mind to! But I’m going to give it a damn good go if they’ll have me.
