Yesterday I had a message from a friend on Facebook suggesting that if I needed something to do for my ‘good deed’ that I sponsor her sister-in law who is taking part in the Reading Half Marathon today. They are raising funds for Dingley Family and Specialist Early Years Centres which provides a place where children, from birth to 5 years, with additional needs and disabilities come to develop skills through play. More than this, it is a place where their parents/carers are welcome, where they can make friends and share experiences.

A worthwhile cause, but making a donation seemed like a bit of a cop-out – just throwing money at another one of the world’s problems – but then it dawned on me: it’s not the donation that counts, it’s the act of support. Today I’ll be supporting someone else as they try to make life a little better.

The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

So all the best to Cassie and Caroline in the marathon today, if you’d like to support them or their very worthwhile cause, please follow this link https://www.justgiving.com/Cassie-Caroline
